I started hiking shortly after 8am. After about 30 minutes of hiking I passed by Kloster Schäftlarn. After this, the trail rejoined the Isar river. Unlike the day before, I didn't encounter too many paved segments. Parts were gravel, and there was quite a lot of water still standing around in puddles, indicative that I was lucky as far as the weather was concerned - so far, I had had blue skies.

The trail got more interesting the further I headed south, away from Munich - first, I walked through some meadows, then through some underbrush right next to the river. Afterwards, there was a minor climb through more regular forest - I was now overlooking the Isar from a small distance - and then I walked into Wolfratshausen shortly after 11am. There was a small store in the town center, so I bought some groceries to have a sandwich lunch at a nearby square in front of the town church.

Thus refreshed, I headed on; walking through more meadows and then rejoined the Isar river and hiked throgh more underbrush. Here, the trail was barely wide enough to hike through, and the high humidity meant that there were plenty of insects. This would lead to quite a number of mosquito bites.

I got lost a few times, since it was quite hard at times to distinguish between the trail that went along the river, trails that merely provided access to the river, and trails that moved away from the river. Sometimes, with only two choices it was difficult to guess whether the left one went to the river and the right one was the one I ought to follow; or if the right one went to the nearest road and I should to follow the left one.

And then the problems with my right knee began. At first, I didn't give it much thought, but then after I had sat down to rest by the river, I found it increasingly hard to walk. I limped into Geretsried - a town that didn't seem to have much going on. First, I walked past a pharmacy and got some anti-inflammatory ointment to put on the knee, and then looked for a place to stay. The first hotel I found was at the other end of the town, and I checked in.

Throughout the evening, I was trying to improve the condition of the knee - I'd never had much trouble with my knees except when doing heavy weight training, and as such I didn't quite know what was going on.
