Originally, I was planning to do a 28 to 30-day through-hike of the Munich-Venice "Traumpfad" route, but I was stopped after just 3 days by a knee injury. Quite why the knee injury surfaced so soon - before I even reached the real mountains - I can't say now, but some of the contributing factors were probably the 10 years of almost-daily training for track&field and the associated beating that the knees took during those years, a backpack that was too heavy, and not using hiking poles.
