< Previous | List | Brauneck Gipfelhaus to Jachenau
I'd say I was up bright and early, but that wouldn't really be the truth - in fact, breakfast (plenty of it, though) was only at 8am and consequently I didn't get going before 8:35am.
And somewhere early on, I must have chosen the wrong trail because rather than following the ridges, I found myself on descent to what probably was Idealhanghütte. Not that bad, but of course every meter of elevation that I lost would be a meter of elevation I'd have to gain later. Which I did pretty soon, and regained the ridge I shouldn't have left in the first place.
About one hour and forty-five minutes of hiking, and I found myself at an intersection, and a decision to make - would I keep on the ridge and go through the Benediktenwand, or would I chose a trail to the right that would probably be less exposed, and which would go past Tutzinger Hütte, a place where I'd be able to have lunch and refuel my water bottles? I chose the latter.
The descent wasn't too bad - the trail was a bit muddy and wet at first, but beyond that it was very easy to walk. It took my about two hours to get to Tutzinger Hütte, but I was glad I took the detour because by this time my water bottles were empty. Unfortunately, after lunch I had to regain some of the elevation that I had hiked down just before, and this took me forty-five minutes. By 2pm, I had all the elevation-gain behind me, however.
The trail towards Jachenau dropped off quite steeply for the first half hour or so, so much so that I didn't envy the hikers that I encountered on their way up. By 3pm, I reached a one-lane unpaved road, and put on my knee protectors since my knees were beginning to take a beating. Also, even though there were lots of trees around, the sun was beating down quite hard.
About an hour before getting to Jachenau, the trail got narrower again, which made things more interesting than walking on a boring unpaved road. I eventually arrived in Jachenau and checked in at one of the only hotels in town.
The next day, I'd take the bus and then train back to Lengries, and then drive back home to Luxembourg already.
